Boys And Girls Club Of America: Tools For Back To School

Tools For Back To School
YAY! It’s that time of year again! Back to school time is probably one of my most favorite seasons! (is it a ‘season’) We’ve done the school clothes shopping and we’re working on all those school supplies Ethan is going to need. I don’t remember needing or getting this much stuff when we were young! Holy cow! For some though, it can be tough finding the money to get what’s needed. The Boys and Girls Club of America has gotten involved with kids who are heading back to school and could use that extra boost to start it off right and well stocked!
The Boys and girls Club of America (BGCA) mission is: “To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” And, to accomplish this, they’ve put together some great programs! They are probably best known for providing kids a safe environment as an alternative to being on the street or having to stay home alone after school. BUT! They also have a Family PLUS initiative. This program helps Boys and Girls Club of America to work together with families and community agencies ensuring the positive development of youth through programming, resources and support.
One super cool way they are doing this is partnering with Disney! And, you all know we are a Disney loving house over here! The Boys and Girls Clubs of America & Disney have got some fun tools for a ‘Back to School’ initiative. Ethan & I even checked out a fun pop-quiz style game you can play. For every correct answer you get, supplies will be donated to the BGCA. We did pretty good too! Feeling great for making our donation! Ethan says “It’s fun, tell your blog people to play a game and make their donations too!” Are you going to let down a 5 year old??
Hey! Have you gotten all those back to school clothes yet? No? Sweet! The Boys And Girls Club Of America has also teamed up with JcPenney for the whole month of August. There’s still plenty of time to get in and help with this one! You can join jcp cares and then all your purchases can benefit the BGCA by rounding up your purchase at the register. Yeah, it’s that easy! What are you waiting for? Go get those last few bits of clothes and round up those purchases!
And this last one, man, I really wish I had something like this when Jessica was still in school! The Boys and Girls Club of America website has some really great tips on time management; helping kids set and meet their goals. Jess really had a hard time getting her head into homework mode after school. This would have been great info! You can download and use the tips and tricks easily by going to the BGCA website, scroll down below the header, there you’ll see a section called Get Ready! It’s really very cool! And hey, every bit helps when it comes to kids making the most of their education, right?
What are some of the things you’re doing to get those small fry’s back in the game and ready for school? Any tips I can use with Ethan?
I love all that they do to give back to the community! Such an outstanding organization!
I’m having a hard time getting my kids ready for back to school. Not sure about a really good tip, but I make them have classroom time for about 20-30 minutes for the week prior to school starting. Reading, worksheets, math, etc. Basically get them back to sitting still.
We haven’t started school yet again and still have a few more weeks. I wish we had something like this in our area.
I’m somewhat glad I don’t have to deal with that worry yet… but it will come one day. 🙂
Whirlwind of Surprises
This is such a great program.
The Boys & Girls Club do such a good job, I just wish their were more sites here in Detroit. So many kids here need their assistance. Thanks for sharing this awesome post!
