Black Forest Recipe – Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake Dream Bars
This Black Forest Recipe totally made up for my birthday that was all ruined because I was sickly. I’ll let you go read about that and laugh away at my misery rather than re-hash all that nonsense! Plus, this is way more than just a simple Black Forest Recipe you find floating around! It’s more like a super, scrumptious cherry cheesecake but with a chunky, chocolate cookie crust!!
My daughter made us a great do-over birthday dinner (Which, really rarely ever happens. So you know just how pathetic my sickly-ness must have been!) Grandpa Juice took this recipe from Betty Crocker’s Dream Bars and made a few changes to make way more than just a birthday cake! A Black Forest Recipe that’s just Oooo Yuuumm Gleeee!
Black Forest Recipe (Cherry Cheesecake Dream bars)
Ingredients:
- 1 Packet Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie Mix
- 1 Egg
- 1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil (We used a light safflower oil to make up for all the cream cheese you’re about to eat)
- 16 OZ Cream Cheese (Softened, However, do NOT used the fat free as it doesn’t hold firm as well with this recipe)
- 1 Can (20 OZ) Cherry Pie Filling
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1 (8 OZ) Container Cool Whip (You can use the fat free kind here!!)
Directions:
Heat oven to 350*. While that’s warming up, grab a large mixing bowl and stir in cookie mix, oil and the egg. Mix, mix, mix. Drop 3 tablespoon sized balls of cookie dough into center of sprayed cookie sheet (really, make only 3 cookies!) Bake about 10-12 minutes. Set aside.
While those 3 cookies are baking, press the remaining uncooked dough into 13X9 glass baking dish. In large mixing bowl, beat all the cream cheese, sugar and all but 1 cup of the cherry pie filling (put that 1 cup in the fridge until ready to serve) This is way easier if you have an electric mixer and use medium speed. If not, build up that muscle in your arm and beat until it’s nice and smooth. Spread the cherry cream cheese mixture on top of cookie dough bottom. Bake at 350* for 40 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes or so and then refrigerate until completely chilled. A good hour or so at least!
Now, take those 3 beautiful double chocolate chunk cookies you made…. and smash them up! Make sure they are chunky and not finely crumbled. Spread the Cool Whip over the chilled cookie and cream cheese layers. Top with the rest of the cherry pie filling and crumbled cookies. Place covered back in ‘fridge until ready to serve. Makes 20 servings. ENJOY!!
Gorgeous, aren’t they?? This Black Forest Recipe is amazing! Only problem, it wasn’t great at putting candles in for blowing out and making that birthday wish. We just flicked our Bic’s and all was super! My wish? Not being sickly on my birthday next year, of course!
